The td27 brain allows for that update as it has an extra USB port for it.
The mesh pads feel realistic. I love being able to program the rim of one tom to be a closed high-hat, another is a cowbell, another is a gong - and each of those sounds can be further edited. The high-hat has been the subject of a few complaints, but I disagree - I was pleasantly surprised with the action, responsiveness, and sound of the high hat on this kit (with a Cobra HH stand). And there are many high-hats to choose from on this kit, and each of those can be substantially edited in many ways, if you choose).
Jon Bauduin

Cross sticking is sensed when the hand hovers slightly above or touches head. And theres so many variations of sound. The CY18-DR digital ride has just the right heft. The sensitivity and range of the pads is great. The hardware is solid. The TD27 module has nuances and overlays within each instrument. The Roland pre-set kits are respectable. I added a V-Expressions \"reality\" expansion pack, for my ear, those samples mix better into songs, and have a more user-friendly, easier to understand, base of samples to start tweaking and pasting the sounds around different kits. I added a Pearl E-Merge 18\" bass drum to this kit, and still have the original KD10 kick trigger in box unopened. The Pearl E-Merge bass adds to the look and feel. I added a few more pads and triggers and I think maxed out the expandability without drum splitting, by mixing in some older TD6 pads and extra cymbals. The older TD6 Roland pads are still plug and play, and still trigger perfectly, after replacing some older foam trigger cones, available on the internet. Super happy with the purchase. The digital snare, the 18\" digital ride, and the TD27 module are the core components and the Roland premium price over a comparable Alesis Strike Pro, just saying if you really like Alesis red sparkle, the Alesis module has many more samples built in and will be cheaper to own.

In my view, I am very happy with the purchase, this kit will last me a long time and I have it in my home office, which really means I can hop on it anytime I want, which is great since I used to be relegated to the basement...

I ordered the Roland PM 100 personal monitor for playing at home and the Roland PM 200 for playing in the studio and through the PA system. If you want to play silently (AS POSSIBLE), a set of Vic Firth headphones is the way to go. When playing with headphones, you can barely hear the sticks against the mesh heads on these drums and that is just what I was hoping for. The snare drum and ride cymbal are just another reason Roland is the best in E-drums in my opinion. I love the fact that I can play rim shots just like on an acoustic and mute the ride cymbal with a touch of the hand. No real complaints other than the fact I wish Roland would make a stabilizer bar for the bottom of the frame on the front side to keep the base drum from inching forward when playing an aggressive groove. I was able to make my own in the studio by using a piece of 4x4 wood and measuring the distance between the front poles and using a hole saw to cut two holes opposite ends the length between the poles and then I painted the wood black to match the drum rack and it solved the problem. Add velcro to the bottom of the wood if playing on carpet and issue was permanently resolved. I'm a loyal customer to Sweetwater and enjoy doing business with them in all of my musical needs because I've always found that when I have a need, Jonathan Appleton and "Sweetwater" always have a solution. Not to mention, shipping is fast and precise. You just can't beat Sweetwater!
One of my main concerns was that the kick pad would move around some, but once you attach it to your kick pedal and screw everything into the carpet, it doesn't slide at all. It's actually relatively heavier than what I was expecting. Only thing I hate on this drum set is the hi-hat. It's kinda finicky. Like when you have it pressed all the way down, sometimes it will just randomly change the sound to be slightly open and then you gotta stomp on it to get it clean again. And getting it to trigger halfway open and washy is kind of difficult. It seems to want to either be closed or open and you have to be really precise to get it in between. But overall, it's a great kit and I'd recommend it.

It came packed safely and efficiently from both Roland and Sweetwater. Setup was a breeze, just followed the online videos for both the frame and components. The kit I purchased included a 4th Tom and I am very pleased I did that. I also added a splash cymbal to my setup. Zac and Sweetwater are fantastic for support and service, so glad I did not go through Amazon.
The digital snare, the 18" digital ride, and the TD27 module are the core components and the Roland premium price over a comparable Alesis Strike Pro, just saying if you really like Alesis red sparkle, the Alesis module has many more samples built in and will be cheaper to own. But it won't be a Roland !

Zac and Sweetwater are fantastic for support and service, so glad I did not go through Amazon. I certainly get a lot from Amazon, but not in this case when you have a company like Sweetwater standing fully behind what they sell you and how they can help you. This is a solid kit, I was thinking I might want to add drum samples to the module, but for now, after tweaking what I like as far as sound goes, this is more than adequate for my level of drumming and practicing.

But overall, its a great kit and Id recommend it.", "sir_rating": "5.0", "sir_name": "Henrik", "sir_whereareyou": "California", "sir_background": "", "sir_keepanonymous": "0" }, { "id": 23806, "store_items_review_id": 364889, "media_type": "image", "thumbnail": "https:\/\/media.sweetwater.com\/api\/i\/w-160__wm-__q-60__hmac-277ba7c116c6936127fb40512399c33b58dae3f4\/URL_aHR0cHM6Ly9zdG9yYWdlLmdvb2dsZWFwaXMuY29tL3dlYi11cGxvYWRzLTU1OTAyZmZjLzIwMjIwNzA2MTI0ODI1LXBocGFwd3Q4cy5qcGVn", "media_path": "https:\/\/media.sweetwater.com\/api\/i\/w-1080__wm-__q-60__hmac-fcb27f17e412cd10dce5d5fd785e958b965e1241\/URL_aHR0cHM6Ly9zdG9yYWdlLmdvb2dsZWFwaXMuY29tL3dlYi11cGxvYWRzLTU1OTAyZmZjLzIwMjIwNzA2MTI0ODI1LXBocGFwd3Q4cy5qcGVn", "sir_title": "Hard to top", "sir_comments": "The PD-140 14\" digital snare is very realistic, maybe better than acoustic. The module is nice and the editing features are impressive. Doubt I will use too many of the preset kits though. There is a learning curve that comes with electronic drums so I am still learning what this thing can do. I am coming back to drums after many years of not playing and acoustic just isnt feasible. Learning the TD27 has been pretty easy so far even with some of the advanced features. I do wish there were more preset kits available to download. The kit I purchased has the extra tom bundled, to make 2 up and 2 down, which better matches my kit (3up, 2down). I plan to expand a few more cymbal pads to match my China and stack, which the TD-27 module has room to accommodate. Being new to E-kits, I know that take some adjustments to get the sounds where you want, but going with aftermarket kit sound is probably the route I will take. It was the digital Ride and snare, as well as the feel of the mesh heads that brought me to go with this kit in the price range I was targeting.

\nThe biggest Con I have found is the rack size. The toms end up pushed pretty close together and in positions that feel unnatural when switching between this kit and my acoustic one. I was able to remedy this by purchasing 36\" curved Gibraltar bars to replace the stock Bars. Now I could possibly add the 3rd rack tom and use splitter for China and stack, fitting everything on the 27 module.", "sir_rating": "4.0", "sir_name": "David", "sir_whereareyou": "Ohio", "sir_background": "", "sir_keepanonymous": "0" }, { "id": 25720, "store_items_review_id": 374534, "media_type": "image", "thumbnail": "https:\/\/media.sweetwater.com\/api\/i\/w-160__wm-__q-60__hmac-7868e553fefe8bd7304278e9e3746878ecd87442\/URL_aHR0cHM6Ly9zdG9yYWdlLmdvb2dsZWFwaXMuY29tL3dlYi11cGxvYWRzLTU1OTAyZmZjLzIwMjIwOTI3MjIzMDE4LXBocGhhbm11di5qcGVn", "media_path": "https:\/\/media.sweetwater.com\/api\/i\/w-1080__wm-__q-60__hmac-f30cc89972a802b695447c7273fdb9cdc1ee1238\/URL_aHR0cHM6Ly9zdG9yYWdlLmdvb2dsZWFwaXMuY29tL3dlYi11cGxvYWRzLTU1OTAyZmZjLzIwMjIwOTI3MjIzMDE4LXBocGhhbm11di5qcGVn", "sir_title": "Great Kit Overall but small rack", "sir_comments": "This is my first E-kit, and ment to compliment my acoustic set, to allow practice when volume may be an issue.
This rack simply limits your ride cymbal mounting options too much. I am 6ft tall, have reversed the right side horizontal bar, for it to sweep away from me, which helps some on those 2 floor toms. Probably going to buy another rack for my E-Kit eventually, or convert to cymbal stands or something. Overall this thing is a tank, which is why I bought a Roland in the first place. If you have a tight space and still want the performance of a bigger kit, want an E-Kit that isn't a toy, this is your kit. Unless you can afford a TD-50
