\n1) Mine had an instrument input that distorted with a low output strat directly plugged in at the lowest gain setting (Which wouldnt matter, as the instrument preamp is before the main preamp).

\nAs Warm wouldnt get back to me, and as I didnt want to wait, I went through the damned thing myself...The deeper I got in, the more irritating things I found.

\nTHe cutting out problem is due to cheap plug in connectors between all of the 8 circuit boards (Not counting the discrete op amps; if you count those, its 10). Even if these were tight, they will eventually corrode. The instrument input had an incorrect transistor stuffed in the board which caused the unusable sound. But theres more...

\nTHe High Pass filter is a single transistor circuit with very low headroom; engaging it sounds grainy.
\nWhile the nickel transformer is super premium, the steel transformer is a little too good and doesnt overdrive like the vintage ones, partially due to every transformer being maximally loaded internally; the thing doesnt breathe like a module running direct from a microphone to a DAW or tape machine. Also, the Line In is just a resistor pad, meaning that low level signals will be noisy, as you will have to turn the gain up. Also, what drives this input will have to be very low impedance (otherwise, it will sound dull), as the resistor pad squashes the signal.
\nThe \"Capacitors\" Switch throws a filter on the \"Clean\" side, it also switches the power supply bypass caps (Which should be mounted to the discrete op amp sockets...theyre not doing their job when they are remote mounted like this).

\nTHe cutting out problem is due to cheap plug in connectors between all of the 8 circuit boards (Not counting the discrete op amps; if you count those, its 10). \nTHe High Pass filter is a single transistor circuit with very low headroom; engaging it sounds grainy.
\nWhile the nickel transformer is super premium, the steel transformer is a little too good and doesnt overdrive like the vintage ones, partially due to every transformer being maximally loaded internally; the thing doesnt breathe like a module running direct from a microphone to a DAW or tape machine. Also, the Line In is just a resistor pad, meaning that low level signals will be noisy, as you will have to turn the gain up. Also, what drives this input will have to be very low impedance (otherwise, it will sound dull), as the resistor pad squashes the signal.
\nThe \"Capacitors\" Switch throws a filter on the \"Clean\" side, it also switches the power supply bypass caps (Which should be mounted to the discrete op amp sockets...theyre not doing their job when they are remote mounted like this).
\nThe \"Tone\" Switch is a 150\/600 Ohm input switch, which is very common, though isnt particularly useful (Show me a mic that sounds better @ 150 and Ill show you a prime rib dinner).
\nThe output transformer bypass works, but then, you signal isnt balanced...Ugh.
