Considering the above I wanted to just pick up an all in one kit from a well-known manufacturer. My previous kit was from Ludwig but I wanted something different. Sweetwater had this Pearl kit for... a great price.
Like any \"all-in-one\" kit, these are geared for beginners or perhaps people like me who do not want to spend a lot because they are not going to be played out or routinely with others. Of course, like many people who buy these all-in-one kits changes are usually made quickly in several areas.
I was pleased with the quality of the drums themselves for the money spent. I did change to Evans G2 coated heads to warm things up a bit but thats just a personal preference. The cymbals that came with the kit were better actually than I expected. However, I did swap them out for some very reasonably priced Meinl cymbals and again, thats just looking for a different tone than I was getting from the included cymbals. The throne that comes with the kit is not too bad but might be more comfortable for a smaller person. (Im 62\" and about 210 lbs.) I already had a nice beefy throne from DW and if youre a larger person you may want to consider an upgrade here. In the photos, you also see \"Evans Drumhead Mute\" covers for your snare and toms. They really cut the toms drastically-the snare not as much unless you double on the snare. Sure, it does suppress the rebound somewhat but its great for practicing rudiments when someone else is home.

Considering the above I wanted to just pick up an all in one kit from a well-known manufacturer. My previous kit was from Ludwig but I wanted something different. Sweetwater had this Pearl kit for... a great price.
Like any \"all-in-one\" kit, these are geared for beginners or perhaps people like me who do not want to spend a lot because they are not going to be played out or routinely with others. Of course, like many people who buy these all-in-one kits changes are usually made quickly in several areas.
I was pleased with the quality of the drums themselves for the money spent. I did change to Evans G2 coated heads to warm things up a bit but thats just a personal preference. The cymbals that came with the kit were better actually than I expected. However, I did swap them out for some very reasonably priced Meinl cymbals and again, thats just looking for a different tone than I was getting from the included cymbals. The throne that comes with the kit is not too bad but might be more comfortable for a smaller person. (Im 62\" and about 210 lbs.) I already had a nice beefy throne from DW and if youre a larger person you may want to consider an upgrade here. In the photos, you also see \"Evans Drumhead Mute\" covers for your snare and toms. They really cut the toms drastically-the snare not as much unless you double on the snare. Sure, it does suppress the rebound somewhat but its great for practicing rudiments when someone else is home.
Overall, the Pearl Roadshow is a really good buy. I have no regrets choosing this kit at this price point. The hardware and the finish are better than I expected.
