You get a great sound! They sound amazing in my truck! I included a video link of the recorded audio in this review. But like I said, I do all my instrument track recordings on my Kronos. The Model 16 brought together my live keyboard playing and Vocals with my recorded instrument tracks. I'm not a professional musician, I'm just a hobbyist keyboard player. For my use its PERFECT! Especially since I'm old school and don't use DAWs. However, If you are looking to do more in-depth detail recording, mastering of an entire band, this board won't help you with that.

But that's just me. Hope this review helps.

The multitrack recorder is great for when you dont wanna haul your computer around, I personally recorded some drums and had music playing for the drummer via my phone and the Bluetooth connection.
\n
\nOne weird note is in order to listen to the playback on your computer, you have to have channels one and two on PC mode and turn your faders up. Very odd if you ask me, and I kinda hope that gets changed via an update to the firmware.
\n
\nI also wouldnt mind a firmware update that allows for DAW control, I know the only reason the model 12 has it is that it uses a USB C connection but Im sure this can handle an update that can make it a controller.
\n
\nBe sure to update to the latest Firmware to get the Stereo Output option, because that is a lifesaver for utilizing all your channels on something like OBS or Discord where it does not support multichannel interfaces.
\n
\nThis mixer overall is made for professionals because it is in fact a hybrid mixer. You can send outputs to a channel and mix in analog which allows for some crazy options for mixing and mastering while using outboard gear.
\n
\nIf I had space Id even go so far as to buy the larger model 24 and record a whole band and then some.

Tascam

\n

Tascam

Im an analog fanatic, as you can imagine, I dont use DAWs for editing, autotune, and plugins. I decided to buy an Aston Spirit Microphone to record my vocals. Using the Aston Mic and Compressing it with my Berhinger Multicom Pro through the insert connections gave me the perfect vocal sound I was looking for. The Tascam Model 16 had finally completed my musical workflow! It delivered a great sounding Demo of my songs. I even uploaded these Demos to Spotify, and let me just say \"they do not fall behind to other artists high-end studio recordings.\" You get a great sound! They sound amazing in my truck! I included a video link of the recorded audio in this review. But like I said, I do all my instrument track recordings on my Kronos. The Model 16 brought together my live keyboard playing and Vocals with my recorded instrument tracks. Im not a professional musician, Im just a hobbyist keyboard player. For my use its PERFECT! Especially since Im old school and dont use DAWs. However, If you are looking to do more in-depth detail recording, mastering of an entire band, this board wont help you with that.
\n
\nThat being said, Im a firm believer that raw talent is what makes a great sounding track. That with a little EQ & compression. Thats it! The Model 16 delivers just that- The essentials. Dont get me wrong, DAWs take your recordings and editing to another level when you are a profesional recording engineer. But I see videos of amateur musicians that use nothing but DAWs and rely completely on so many plug-ins, Auto-tune, copy\/paste etc... You shouldnt have to rely on so many effects to make your recordings sound good. Part of making great music is rehearsing and enjoying the process. You perfect the craft of music making when you practice. The editing should only be the polish of the rehearsed recorded audio, the cherry on top. But thats just me.

\n
\nAt first, I thought it was a little flat\/light sounding. But in time, I realized the sound produced from the Rockville was too Bass-Heavy. I used it for so long, hearing the excessive low frequencies became normal to me. The Model 16 helped me reset my sound pallet & EQ settings. It took me some time to find the perfect EQ setting to my liking but after a few weeks I finally got it! I now compare my Youtube videos where I used the Rockville and where I use the Model 16 and my sound is more balanced on the EQ spectrum now. Once I found the right sound adjustment, I started recording!

Tascam 16

decent condensers sparkle with good pre's!

\n
\nI realized using my stage mic (Senheiser MD 435) was not giving me the crisp studio sound I imagined on my vocals.
\nI also wouldnt mind a firmware update that allows for DAW control, I know the only reason the model 12 has it is that it uses a USB C connection but Im sure this can handle an update that can make it a controller.

\nBe sure to update to the latest Firmware to get the Stereo Output option, because that is a lifesaver for utilizing all your channels on something like OBS or Discord where it does not support multichannel interfaces.

? ? ? I have no idea what the knob does or whether it affects compression threshold or compression rate. I will figure it out. I've done a lot of reverse engineering over the years but I should not have to do that. The block diagrams and gain structure diagrams are unreadable in the printed version of the manual.

Drums, guitars, vocals all sound thin, and these preamps are very bad with high spl sounds. kicks always sound to loud or too low in the mix, and snare as well. These pre amps respond awfully to sharp transients. guitars sound excessively flubby and vocals also never sit well in the mix. Pretty much everything i record with this the elements sound too low or too loud in the mix it is near impossible to solidly balance the elements. The clarity is undetailed, and everything lacks fullness in the low end.

Overall very difficult to use this as a digital multitrack recorder.

It definitely is a strong live mixer but horrible for any serious recording endeavors.
